March 20, 1 p.m.

April 6, 7 p.m.

April 10, 1 p.m.

Over many years and particularly during the past decade, Amity and University United Methodist Churches have enjoyed a fruitful partnership. We have collaborated in many ways that have enriched both congregations and our wider Chapel Hill-Carrboro community, from joint vaccine clinics to Ash Wednesday services, always with the goal of sharing God’s love.

As a result of these strong bonds, many ideas have arisen about adding structure to the two churches’ connection. A small group of church leaders from both congregations began discussions in April 2021 to explore possibilities. This discernment team, composed of Rev. Donnie Jones, Rev. Justin Coleman, five members of Amity UMC, and five members of University UMC, met regularly to engage in conversations with each other and with District Superintendent Mike Frese and representatives of Saison Consulting. The team is now ready to make recommendations for how we might move forward with a more defined collaboration between Amity and University churches.

To give shape to new partnership opportunities, congregation-wide listening sessions will be held at both churches. Amity UMC will have two information-sharing meetings that will be both live and Zoom, one on March 27 at 12:00 p.m., the other on April 24 at 12:00 p.m. (Zoom links will be provided before the meetings). University UMC will hold three meetings via Zoom on March 20 at 1 p.m., April 6 at 7 p.m., and April 10 at 1 p.m.

The future collaborations and partnership between our two congregations could have a notable impact on ways that we move forward in our shared commitment to do God’s work. Your presence and input during these meetings and afterwards are very important in guiding the future of both congregations, so we hope you will attend.
