Youth Mental Health Summit

With a focus on confronting the stigma associated with anxiety, #TeenAnxiety: A Youth Mental Health Summit features a screening of the IndieFlix documentary Angst, Raising Awareness Around Anxiety. “Angst” is a 56-minute film that explores anxiety its causes, effects and what we can do about it.

The filmmakers’ goal is to have a global conversation and raise awareness around anxiety. “Angst” features candid interviews with kids and young adults who suffer, or have suffered, from anxiety and what they’ve learned about it. The film includes discussions with mental health experts about the causes of anxiety and its sociological effects, as well as help, resources and tools. The film will be followed by breakout sessions relating to healthy coping strategies, theme discussions, the “anxious brain” and high school/college transitions.

For parents, teachers, youth leaders and mental health workers, there is a separate adult track with similar breakout sessions and Cardinal Innovations “Stigma Training.”

The summit will be October. 6 at Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill (800 Market St., Chapel Hill, NC 27516) from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration is limited to 100 youth and 40 adults (scholarships are available).
